Murder / Manslaughter

Murder & Manslaughter

Driscoll Young Solicitors have a long history of defending the most serious of crimes. None are more serious than Murder.

Being wrongly accused of such crimes can also have long term detrimental effects due to the risk of long term imprisonment and the stigma associated with the severity of these crimes.

In the event an individual is accused of murder or manslaughter, it is imperative that the accused does not answer any questions until they have a legal representative, as anything said from the moment of arrest and whilst in police custody could then be used as evidence against a defendant.

It is therefore extremely important that advice is sought immediately on arrest and certainly before any interviews.

About Murder & Manslaughter Law

The legal definition of murder refers to a situation in which a person of sound mind (with sufficient mental capacity to have understood their actions) unlawfully takes the life of another with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, or kill. The significant thing here is that you do not have to intend to kill to be guilty of murder.  You just need to have intended grievous bodily harm.

Manslaughter is different in that it refers to unlawful killing with diminished responsibility or without intent. In order to determine which has taken place, intensive investigation is required so that the correct advice can be given. Sometimes this may involve the need for expert medical evidence in the form of assessments and reports from psychologists and psychiatrists.

Accusations of any crimes that fall within the murder and manslaughter category will have life-changing consequences, potentially resulting in long-term imprisonment. With over two decades’ legal expertise our dedicated team of solicitors is here to help.
